It’s really easy to transform your favourite cupcake recipe into a Christmas cupcake, you just need the right cases and toppings. I made some mini vanilla and mini chocolate cupcakes in some festive cases and used some holly green sugarpaste to make some mini holly leaves and stars as toppers.
Green icing is fun to make – just keep adding food colouring until you have a colour you like. I wanted it to contrast with the red, green and white sugar balls so that they would stand out. I liked the look of the mini holly leaves with them and I thought they would be a great topping for the vanilla cupcake.
For the mini chocolate cupcakes I used the same green buttercream icing but added a mini star topper and some silver balls, in an attempt to create a sort of “Christmas tree” look. I also sprinkled on some dark chocolate shards, just because I thought the dark chocolate and the green icing contrasted really well.
